Election and Voting in Indian Democracy
India as a democratic country observes their elections every five years. The qualified voters are those Indian citizens who are eighteen years of age. Different parties held meetings in order to for the citizens to draw their attention to their programs. Candidates for election also walk in every area to promote their candidacy. Candidates who get the most of the people’s vote will they win but if not, they lose. It is indeed a struggle and a fight but it is a harmonious fight. The only things involve are not bullets but ballots.
The election in India is a like an examination in school where students review very hard. Those who study hard pass but those who don’t flunk. Just like elections, there are good leaders who support the assistance of the people as much as people supported then during the election. Thus, people don’t have a hard time in choosing who they will vote.
However, there are also politicians who are not responsible for their duties. What is important for them is to profit. They just say “yes” to the public demands but they are not taking necessary actions. When another election period takes place, that’s the time they will remember their promise. These kinds of politicians are like playful boys who doesn’t exert effort to study and when the examination is approaching, they will start studying and stay late at night to study hard but still, they flunk the test.
But examination is not a true test of excellence. This is also the same with election. Those good leaders who deserve to win often lose while those corrupt politicians win during election. This is because of the voters who are not aware of the value of their vote. A ballot paper has so much strength will give an impact to government without risking the life of the people. Unfortunately, people don’t vote wisely especially those poor people who don’t make proper use of their vote. Indeed, elections are neither totally clear nor just.
