MIND our Health

George Mcnaughton

A lot of countries in Asia encounter various problems about health; and the leading cause of these health risks is the environment. But we can all say that we can’t blame anyone else but ourselves. Recklessness has been a factor to why most countries in Asia are polluted. People just won’t spend a second of their time to stop and pick up garbage or to even throw it in the right place. Countries like Singapore and Japan are known for how clean and organized the countries are as they have so many rules about littering and waste control. For example, you can get jailed in Singapore if you were to be caught littering anywhere. The countries like these have strict laws that are enforced so that they can preserve and maintain the beauty of their own environment. The goverments focuses and prioritizes on cleanliness so that their country would become more eye catching to tourists and visitors which can become a big factor to their success. Of course the success in maintaining the surroundings clean is mostly because of the government but without discipline, people will not follow the rules and will do whatever they want to do. Some other reason why people litter all over the place in most countries in Asia is because the lack of places to actually throw the garbage away. If garbage cans were in every street in a country, littering will probably go down a little but like as said, without proper discipline, there would be no point to having them. Governments need to prioritize in the cleanliness of their country more before on other matters such as building footbridges that can wait. If a country such as the Philippines had a law in where when you are caught littering, you would have to pay a certain price that to some people is not affordable will make citizens more cautious and alert to help maintain the environment clean. If the environment in the Philippines was actually prioritized by the government, it can possibly turn out to look very great. The tourism would actually rise because who would not love to visit a country that is rich in natural resources and is very clean with no pollution. Taking care of the environment can bring more tourists that of course will help the tourism of the country causing it to be more known. Do you think that the environment should or needs to be more prioritized by the governments in Asia? Do you think that not prioritizing it is holding countries back?
