Clean Elections for a Clean Government

Posted by Focus Pacific on February 8th, 2024

As soon as campaign season comes around, we are once again surrounded with ambitious people, hoping to win their desired position. Television advertisement, posters, and radio shows are the most common way for them to sell themselves. Thousands and thousands of money are being spent for these alone. They would go through that just because of one slot in the government.

Candidates nowadays varies from businessman to local artist. They gain confidence from their past experiences in the TV and with their clients and we yet got to see who really deserves the slot in the government. Because the candidates are increasing, some of them feels threaten. They began to think that their chances of winning has slim down to almost nothing. And then enters the dirty election. Dirty election literally means cheating candidates. Bribery and vote-buying are the most common ones out of the list. Who knows, there’s probably something even darker than this.

We desperately try to have a peaceful and clean elections. Unfortunately, we, the voters, doesn’t get to see what’s behind the curtains. Although we are assured that there are no cheating taking place, we are not that certain. Candidates are not stupid to showcase that they are cheating. They do this things in the shadows, when no one is watching. But let’s not hope for something like that to happen. We should encourage our running candidates to embrace a clean and untainted election.

For a clean election is a clean government. We all know that our governments always has something kept as secrecy. That can’t be helped. For everybody always has another side and a fouled secret personality. But at least, let’s have a clean election. Let the people choose you on their own free will. Once chosen, this only proves that you are indeed rightful for that place. We don’t know if the government officials feel guilt. But, isn’t it an assuring feeling that you went through a fight to survive election without ever tainting your hands and that you are chosen for you are seen capable and trustworthy to the people.

Be caution during security check

Posted by Focus Pacific on January 30th, 2024

The scheme intended to deceive or outwit passengers in Manila Airport has already been reported by few passengers. Unfortunately, if you are the victim during a security check, you will deal with this difficult situation.

At the security control area, during the inspection of your suitcases or other bags for traveling using the X-ray scanner, the airport officers will tell you to go the other side and order you to open your luggage. One of the security officers is wearing gloves and checks your luggage then they will immediately found bullets inside your bag.

No passenger will truly travel with bullet in their luggage. Then questions will pop up here. The officers will bring you to their office where you will be asked to pay an amount in order to release you. In case you refuse to pay, they will hold you as long as they want until you follow what they want.

This kind of tactics is very alarming and passengers should be extra careful. Based on the report, passengers are advised to cover their luggage with plastic or duct tape before they check-in to avoid this kind of issue in Manila airport. Seal your hand baggage in order for officers not to extend their hands in your bag during X-ray scan. If you wish to open your bag, be very observant to the airport officers.

What’s the value of single-sex schools?

Posted by Focus Pacific on January 24th, 2024

What’s the value of single-sex schools?

After decades of showing approval, single-sex schools are developing and supported by many people specifically in some urban areas offering benefits to students from low-income families. Research on the value of such schools has been mixed. People who publicly supports a particular cause say that single-sex community permit teachers to balance to the learning strategies of boys and girls, while protecting from the interruptions of dealing with the other gender. Rivalries say teaching the genders differently can develop weak labels, and that different facilities are inherently unequal.

Countries like Thailand and Japan where co-ed classes are the regulations, single-sex schools had important effects for the success of both boys and girls, but not all in the same path. In Thailand, girls excel better in single-sex school compared to co-ed, but boys didn’t have the same thing. On the other hand, both genders of students in Japan achieved lower results in single-sex schools. The distinctions are associated to the specific purposes of the schools. In Thailand, a small quantity for girls in Bangkok provides elite education for girls, while co-ed schools provide more opportunities for boys. In Japan, single-sex schools tend to be private, and provide a direction to private universities without the difficult entrance exams of public universities.

Single-sex schools in Japan and Thailand are “perceived as very distinct from the average school.” Whatever the positive or negative influences the schools have on the success of students, they may be due more to those styles than to gender separation.

The future of reading

The future of reading:

E-books vs. the printed word

Tina Herr

Would there be a time in the future where nobody would have to flip a page on a book ever again?

This is the 21st century. When people back in the 1920’s depicted the future as place with flying cars, learning helmets and artificial people—we turned those predictions into reality by creating the jet plane, the personal computer and robots.

So what’s there to lose when the announcement of electronic books came to surface? Reading would be a hassle-free experience, plus fewer trees would e used in the production of e-books. It would be more convenient for people on the go, and it would reach almost everyone around world. The e-book is practicality in a small, handheld object.

What about printed books, then? Book printing has been around for a very long time—and it has been a big part of our heritage. Of course, no electronic gadget could replace the smell of a freshly-opened book or the beautiful yellowing of its pages as time passes.

So take a stand. Would it be a vote for the E-book, or the printed word?
